Dragons Representatives Fly to NZ with Australian Teams

Published Tue 10 Sep 2019

Four of our 2019 Southern Dragons Squad have flown to Weelington, NZ as part of the Australian squad competing at the NZMMNA Men's Netball Nationals: Mark Goreham - 17 & Under Assistant Coach, Michelle Williams - 35 & Over Men's Manager, Hannah Sboro - Men's Reserve Manager, Vanessa Alvaro - Trainer.

After travelling to Canberra last month for the Aus Teams Training Camp, Mark spoke of the experience and opportunity of Assistant Coaching the Australian 17 & Under Men's Team:

"It was a pleasure to work with the best junior male netballers coming through the ranks.

For me, coaching is not only developing the on court skills, but also empowering the unseen skills such as leadership, communication and initiative off the court, As an experienced Men's player, I really enjoyed the opportunity to pass on my knowledge to the boys in the team and training partners while also developing my coaching skills.

I took a lot of confidence from the week...the athletes themselves were fantastic, showing the coaching staff a lot of respect and being open minded as they took on all feedback and direction given.

I am really excited to hit the NZ Men's Nationals as part of the green and gold and further enhance my desire to head down a coaching pathway. I am also thankful to Geoff Taylor (Head Coach) who does a fantastis job. It is great to futher refine my craft under his guidance and I thank him for giving me autonomy over our attack end."

Being a part of the Southern Dragons squad opens up opportunities for all of our players, coaching staff, managers, physios and umpires at a National and International level. We also had one of our Junior payers, Harrison Valente, travel to the training camp as a training partner. Harrison took a lot of new skills out of the training camp and was able to train with and make friends with players from all over Australia.

We wish the best of luck to all Australian representative Players and Officials as they compete at the NZMMNA Men's Netball Nationals.
