The South Australian Men's and Mixed Netball Association (SAMMNA) is delighted to announce it will be conducting a Men's League supported by Netball SA in 2020.
The Men's League will be played on Monday nights during the weeks Netball SA Premier League has no games.
The season will start on the July 27 with six teams playing a lightning five-round season with finals commencing on September 28.
All dates are available below.
SAMMNA and Netball SA have been working together on various programs since SAMMNA's affiliation in late 2017 and this competition is another step in the right direction to continue growing the pathways for male netballers in South Australia.
By alternating weeks with the Netball SA Premier League, SAMMNA President Steve McInnes said he was hopeful to attract a new audience to the men’s game.
“We’re hoping to capture more spectators who are hungry to see some of the great netball that has been missing over the COVID-19 forced isolation period,” Dr McInnes said.
“Men's leagues originally started as early as the 80’s, but spent almost 10 years on hiatus in SA before it was restarted in 2015 on a Monday night at Priceline Stadium."
“The Men's competition has been a key part in growing SA's representation at a National level and is normally played all year round with a full 18-week, eight-team competition scheduled for Summer 20/21."
“Taking the step to now having Netball SA's support with this competition will enhance the profile and professionalism of the competition.”
Netball SA’s General Manager of Netball, Megan Wooldridge, said the organisation was thrilled to support the Men’s league even further in 2020.
“The SAMMNA competition and Men’s netball in SA in general has blossomed in recent years and we’re excited to see its development further this season,” Ms Wooldridge said.
“COVID-19 has certainly taken its toll on our sport, making it even more important for us to work together to ensure the game continues to grow.”
“I would encourage all netball fans to get to as many of the five rounds as possible to see these talented athletes in action.”
With Round One of the condensed competition kicking off next Monday night, entry will be free and the kiosk will be open.
